Quote from marsaz :Yes, that move is completely legal. The only thing that i would like to point out is that being on the outside makes you able to brake later. Which of course Hammilton did and Massa had to brake even later if he wanted to get the inside of the corner.. but he couldn't stop himself in time.
Lewis did exactly what i tried to describe in the post above. He didn't try to keep on the outside, he went deeper into the corner to get a better exit.. well that doesn't really matter as Massa went off anyway.

Not sure how much exactly you have to be alongside with the defending car to have the right to the corner. From what i remember it is half the car's lenght but i may be wrong

in my opinion, if you can see them on the inside then it is best to let them through, because if you turn in you KNOW they will be there! causing an accident.

the outside line is always much longer, and its normally pretty pointless trying to stay on the outside (unless in the case of the chincane after the harpin, you will end up on the inside for the next turn if u styay on the outside of the 1st 1)

if alan had gone into the corner slower to allow the other guy room on the exit, he wouldnt have had enough overlap to 'present himself' to the other driver, and he would have got turned in on, resulting in a crash!

perfect manuver, had the other guy not tried to go round the outside, he probably could have lunged alan into the following right hander.

and anyway, the other guy probably went off track himself by getting power understeer when he booted the power!

seems popular! hopefully the scawen/the becky can make it happen!
Starting position on race finish screen

i think it would be nice to see on which grid position people started the races, the screen would jus be,

position........name........pit........grid
......1...........dendy.......0...........5
......2....tristan is batty..1...........3
etc

it would be good coz then u can see when people go from 32nd to the top 5 and stuff.

i agree with josh, about the line, and also the fact that had alonso pushed heidfeld off, it would have been a sideswipe and not a squeeze since heidfeld was fully alongside at the apex, and the exit.

Quote from Shotglass :

and now you expect others to give you the line even though they have significant overlap ... its the same thing

what are u on about? if sum1 has overlap then its thier corner..
thier nose beside my rear wheel ISNT significant overlap

what the hell are u on about?

Quote from Gentlefoot :Depends how it's done.

If you are trying to pass someone around the outside of a bend at the exit and you have not made it fully alongside them then that person is quite within their rights to use all of the track they need for the exit. This is the normal racing line. This is know as a 'squeeze'. A sensible driver who is being squeezed should back off to avoid an accident.

If on the other hand the car trying to pass on the outside at exit gets fully alongside and the driver moves over and makes contact or forces them onto the grass this is known as 'side swiping' and is considered dangerous driving in real world motorsport so you shouldn't do it in LFS either.

totally agree!

When i did karting years ago i ALWAYS used to crash into people

sorry couldnt resist

Troy

haha yea man, when i first started, i didnt know how to overtake, i put my nose beside their wheel and usually hit them because i DIDNT know how to pass, similar to alot of the LFSers.

Quote from Shotglass :you know the ironic bit is that it was ayrton who a while ago complained about how others dodnt understand significant overlap and wanted him to give up the inside for just having a nose in and now just a few weeks later he wants them to give up the outside regarless of how much overlap they have

no man, i totally disagree with that, i said that other people expect to pass by just sticking their nose beside my rear wheel, i comit myself and make sure that they can see me.

never have i said that.
heres the proof man

Quote from Shotglass :no he has the right to the apex if you manage to keep side by side to him you have the right to dictate his exit

and ayrton is probably the worst one to listen to in these things being a guy who thinks pushing others and cutting the track is a ok

up yours!!

perfect example sinbad, im sure its happened to us all many times! the defending car in that situation is usually the one blaming and trying to ban the attacker aswell!!!

Quote from MyBoss :Ayrton, what you're saying is that Fisichella could have just driven right into Kimi Raikkonen last year at Suzuka (or was it the year before?) because Kimi were on the outside.

Whos to blame here? (at the end)

the 1 with montoya was montoyas fault, because there was no way for the driver infront to know he was on the inside, bad move from monty, he didnt present himself!!!
he did what alot of people in LFS do, undercomit or expect the drivers infront to be looking into their mirrors. if he LOBBED it up the inside in a big braking zone, the driver infront would go, 'whoa' and not turn in!

havnt seen the 2nd vid
ill never squeeze sum1 before the apex, only after if they tried to stay on the outside!

if u presented yourself beside me on the inside, then there would be nothing i can do, apart from try to cut back on the inside on the exit!!

so yes, you would win if i couldnt cut back

man, u guys know NOTHGING and cant understand

they get squeezed on the EXIT if they STAY on the outside of u whilst u are passing
on the ENTRY the aim is to make sure they see you so they dont turn in

When i get overtaken, when sum1 is on the inside, i know im beaten and i drop back behind them at the apex, and try to get them back
LFSers try and go round the outside which just wastes time and is poor race craft.

theres no point in continuing with this convo because people who dont race CANT understand

Quote from Mr.Muh :Of course you´ll hit each other if you keep your speed and your line, but i guess it´s your job to avoid contact with slowing down a little more, therefore being able to get some space between you and the outside of the track..

if u slowed down more so that they could stay on the outside, then u wouldnt be able to let them see you on the inside!!

montoya squeezed schumacher off a few years ago and brundle was saying what a good move it was, ill try and find the vid.

EDIT: i think it was fisichella squeezed sum1 at melbourne last year

its hard to explain, but if someone were to stay on your outside u run them off the track after the apex of the turn

in real life, EVERYONE knows not to try and go round the outside once someone is alongside. i tried it a few weeks ago and i went off!!

its ahrd to explain, but imagine lobbing the car up the inside and totally commiting yourself, meaning u WILL run to the outside of the track on the exit, if someone is there then physics means that u will force them off.

i race in the national kart championship on a very small budget against some VERY experienced drivers and im only about 0.1 off the pace, and ive only done 11 kart races as a non novice...

this is down to sims teaching me how to drive and improve, but you have to have some previous experience to base LFS upon and improve what you are weak on, if that makes sense???

race craft in sims is totally different to real racing though..

what a silly move lol

would have been good if he could have presented himself and actually stood half a chance of making it round the corner!

the tyres in the tyre walls are probs newer than your tyres m8! i laughed at sum1 who had tyres from 2002! maybe we can place bets at how much faster tristan will be with new tyres. i go with 2.1 secs
ayrton senna 87
S2 licensed
i reckon they would find 4 seconds! its the guy behind the wheel that makes the car faster than anyone else!

also, with new tyres u can push alot more because of the added confidence of more grip, so u wouldnt have to brake like a little girl!

i wanna come watch u one day tristan.
love u long time.

Quote from tristancliffe :Yes, we need new slicks - that'll be worth an easy second per lap (assuming I bed them in properly).

more than that surely!!!

i find a nearly second on new tyres from old tyres that have done 2 days and are only 3 months old, on alot shorter track!!!
